Vol. 1 No. 2 (2026): The Space Court Foundation Student Space Law Journal, March 2026

Welcome to the March 2026 issue of the Space Court Foundation Student Space Law Journal (SCF SSLJ).

In an era of unprecedented growth in space activities — driven by both state and private actors — the need for fresh perspectives and innovative legal analysis has never been greater. The SCF SSLJ was founded to meet that need: an open, dedicated platform where law students and early-career space law professionals can participate in scholarly discourse at the highest level. By removing traditional barriers to publication and providing structured editorial mentorship, we aim to cultivate emerging writing talent, stimulate debate, and advance the rule of law in space.

This issue brings together contributions spanning a broad range of urgent and evolving topics in space law. Authors address foundational questions of governance and equity, including the application of the law of armed conflict, electromagnetic spectrum regulation, heritage site preservation, sustainability, and the role of developing nations in shaping the future of space governance. Regional perspectives are also well represented, with articles examining insurance requirements and the regulation of space shipping in the United States, as well as the case for updating NATO principles to reflect the realities of space-based conflict.

A number of contributions in this issue focus specifically on the militarization of space, tackling timely and consequential subjects such as the cybersecurity of dual-use satellites, state censorship and shutter control policies, and the use of satellite data in prosecuting war crimes.
